Bouma Kids Field Day (October 1, 2004)
Kids from five villages on the Levena Coast have their Friday race day...
I took three days to travel to the east side of the island, to the Bouma Park and Levena Coast area. This entailed taking the local bus three different times, for an hour, an hour and then two hours back. Between the bus rides and my layover day at Levena (where I went to church and got into many conversations with locals), these three days provided me with the most exposure to Fijian lives and lifestyles as I got all three weeks here.
Upon arriving at my bus stop at the start of the Bouma National Heritage Park, I joined the caretaker of the Park visitor center and two other visitors from Sweden on a visit to the school playground of the local village, where we watched the kids in their weekly Friday race day (running, long jump, shot-put throw). Here are some pictures from that time.
