Denver to Mt Sopris... An Aerial Tour
Denver in the lower right. You can see the railyard just north of downtown Denver in the lower center, and the Denver Zoo complex to the left (east) of downtown. The North Platte River flows around the west side (right) of downtown. The Cherry Creek Reservoir (part of Cherry Creek State Park) is the white area at the middle-left of the photo, and Marston Lake in Englewood in in the middle-right. Finally, Chadfield Lake, frozen white, south of the town of LIttleton is in the upper right (just under the wing).
The Holy Cross Wilderness is in the foreground. A frozen Turquoise Lake is the "Nike Swoosh" shaped feature in the middle-left of the photo. Beyond the lake is the Arkansas River drainage, heading to the upper left of the photo (Leadville closer to Turquoise Lake, and Buena Vista somewhere in the upper left of this photo).
From the outlet of Woody Creek (lower left) to the East Sopris Creek (lower right), with Aspen, Aspen Highlands, and Snowmass ski areas in view. As well, the Aspen-Pitkin County airport is visible. The Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness in the middle-right of the photo. And beyond those mountains, you can see the Crested Butte area. And in the very far background is open high plateau through which the Black Canyon of the Gunnison River flows.
